Authorities in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin have charged an area woman with DUI manslaughter after a car accident that fatally injured her friend on Jan. 14. Police officers said the suspect's blood-alcohol level was 0.132 nearly two hours after the early-morning accident. The suspect, 24, reportedly told police that she has not memory of the incident.

Prosecutors released a criminal complaint in the case on Jan. 19 that describes what authorities say happened. The women had gone to a combination bar and nightclub in Milwaukee with two other friends. The suspect and victim drank alcohol in the car before entering the club, then spent about three hours inside, continuing to drink, the complaint says.

They left the club around 1 a.m. and the victim, 34, got behind the wheel. But after a short distance, she pulled into a gas station parking lot and vomited. She reportedly told the suspect that she could not drive anymore and asked the 24-year-old to take over. The suspect resisted at first, telling the victim that her driver's license had been suspended and that she likely should not be driving either. Still, prosecutors say, the suspect eventually took over driving and the pair left the gas station.

Around 1:30 a.m., the car was headed west on W. Capitol Drive when the suspect reportedly lost control. The car struck the median, rebounded and struck a tree on the passenger side. The impact badly injured the passenger, who died at the scene.

Police say the suspect told them she had no memory of driving the car or of the accident. A blood-alcohol test taken nearly two hours later allegedly read 0.132.

It remains to be seen whether the accident will lead to a personal injury lawsuit from the victim's next of kin.
